Perez Hilton’s Mother Files for Temporary Custody of His Kids

Hilton's mother is now temporarily responsible for his kids after he consented to hand over legal custody. The petition, filed in a Miami family court, comes amid ongoing concerns for Hilton's health and the family's privacy.

Perez Hilton's mother, Teresita Lavandeira, has stepped in to take temporary guardianship of his three children — Mario, 13, Mia, 11, and Mayte, 8 — following the gossip blogger's disturbing livestream incident earlier this month, during which he appeared to harm himself.

Court documents obtained by Page Six and People show that Lavandeira filed the guardianship petition in a Miami family court on Friday, August 7, just three days after the livestream took place. The paperwork confirms that Hilton "voluntarily consented" to the arrangement.

"I realize that by signing this document, I am consenting to the Petitioner having temporary legal custody of the minor children and that such temporary custody is in the best interest of the children," the documents state.

Under the agreement, Lavandeira can now approve medical and dental care for the kids, access their medical, vital, and educational records, make schooling decisions on their behalf, and handle other responsibilities tied to their day-to-day welfare.

The filing, which Hilton personally signed, continues:

"I realize that the custody of my children by the Petitioner is temporary and that I may, at any time, petition the court to return legal custody to me. I understand and acknowledge that I may have to comply with a reasonable transition plan prior to the court returning legal custody to me."

In a separate filing, Lavandeira asked the court to seal the case from public record, explaining that doing so would allow the family to "privately heal and move forward from this very unfortunate incident."

"The Respondent in this case is a public figure and the media has been surrounding his home for days on end," the papers state. "The children in this case should not be subjected to any further trauma related to the incidents that are the basis for the Petition."

Lavandeira's attorney echoed that sentiment in a statement to Page Six.

"My main concern and objective, as well as the family's, is to protect the children and make sure they are safe," the attorney said. "We want them to have some sense of normalcy as they begin their journey of healing after the tragic events that occurred last week."

The guardianship filing follows a harrowing episode last week, when Hilton made headlines after appearing to intentionally injure himself during a TikTok livestream. Viewers watched as he appeared on camera covered in blood while holding a large knife.

Concerned fans flooded emergency lines with calls, prompting authorities to hospitalize Hilton under Florida's Baker Act — a law permitting the involuntary, temporary detention of individuals believed to pose a danger to themselves or others.

Sources close to the media personality say he had displayed no warning signs of a mental health crisis before the livestream began. Since then, his family has issued updates confirming that although Hilton is on the mend, he remains far from fully recovered.

The family also renewed their plea for privacy, criticizing outlets that have continued camping outside the home despite earlier requests to leave. "There is absolutely no reason for members of the media or the public to remain outside the family's home," the statement noted.

It went on, "We again respectfully ask members of the media to leave the home and surrounding area, stop following family members, and cease photographing Perez's children. We also ask photo agencies not to purchase, publish, or distribute any photographs of the children that may have been taken."

As Hilton continues his recovery, his family's focus remains on shielding the children from further media exposure while navigating a delicate and painful chapter for the household.
