A missing godchild sparked instant chatter about cracks in a decade-old friendship. Now King's camp is shutting down the rumors before they spiral any further.

Jaime King is setting the record straight after news emerged that her son, Leo Newman, who is Taylor Swift's godson, was not present at the "Cruel Summer" singer's luxurious MSG wedding on July 3.

The absence quickly fueled speculation about the state of King and Swift's friendship, prompting the actress to address the matter publicly through her team.

"The reason Jaime chose Taylor as Leo Thames's godmother is because they both believe that being a godmother is a deeply personal and spiritual commitment that has nothing to do with public appearances," King's publicist, Jane Owen, said in a statement.

"Leo Thames is still too young for a large adult wedding celebration, but he and his mother were able to joyfully celebrate Taylor and Kelce's marriage in his own very special, age-appropriate way during his summer break," the publicist added.

The statement arrived just a day after reports surfaced that none of Swift's five godchildren attended the wedding festivities with Kelce. The pop star also serves as godmother to all four of Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds's children: Olin, 3; Betty, 6; Inez, 9; and James, 11.

Swift was once so close to the girls that their names inspired song lyrics, including "Betty," from her 2020 album "Folklore." Yet according to sources, it was the daughters of Kelce's brother, Jason, who ended up serving as flower girls during the ceremony — not any of Swift's godchildren.

King asked Swift to become Leo's godmother back in 2015, the year her son was born with then-husband Kyle Newman.

That request came a year after the model-turned-actress attended Swift's Fourth of July party in Watch Hill, Rhode Island, alongside Emma Stone and Lena Dunham — both of whom were later present at the wedding.

"Taylor gets really close to the people in front of her fast. She and Jaime just happened to be friends when Jaime was pregnant, and that's why Jaime asked [Swift to be godmother] — but they didn't have a super long history together," one music insider explained.

"Taylor and Jaime haven't been spotted together in years," the insider continued.

Indeed, a source close to King revealed back in April 2025 that the "Hart of Dixie" actress's friendship with Swift had "suffered because of the personal challenges" she has "faced over the past few years."

A month earlier, King had lost custody of Leo and her elder son, James, 12, after failing to complete a court-mandated drug and alcohol rehabilitation program. A judge subsequently ruled that she would only be permitted supervised visitation with her boys three times a week.

At the time, the source disclosed that King had missed Swift dearly and hoped to rebuild their bond. "Jaime made Taylor her son's godmother for a reason and she wants to continue that friendship," the source noted. "She is going through a rough time right now."

"Between being forced to move out of her rental home because of the lawsuit involving her former landlord, and her ex getting sole physical custody of her boys, it's all been very challenging."
