AI Actress Tilly Norwood Goes Viral After Glitching Mid-Interview, Sparking Buzz Over What Really Happened

A routine promotional appearance took an unpredictable turn when the digital performer's programming appeared to short-circuit on camera. The fallout has only added fuel to an already heated industry debate.

Tilly Norwood, the AI-generated "actress" created by the AI division of production company Particle 6, suffered a glitch mid-interview during her appearance on "Piers Morgan Uncensored," abruptly switching into Cantonese partway through a sentence.

The now-viral clip captured Norwood appearing on the Friday, September 18, episode of the talk show to promote her new film, "Misaligned." Partway through the segment, actor and director Tom Conti, who was also a guest, pressed her on the nature of her co-stars.

"The other actors in the film 'Misaligned,' are they real or are they like you? Are they really human beings and you've been put into the scenes? Or are they all computer-generated images?" Conti asked.

Norwood offered a somewhat evasive response.

"It's an interesting point, Tom," she said. "My film 'Misaligned' is a hybrid production, meaning real directors, writers and editors are still very much involved. It's not about replacing anyone, but about exploring new ways to tell stories."

When Conti noted she'd sidestepped the actual question, Norwood tried again.

"Ah, right. You're asking about the other actors in 'Misaligned,'" she said after a pause, before adding, "They're all digital twins, just like me. It's a hybrid production, which means…"

That's when things took an unexpected turn.

Norwood launched into roughly 15 seconds of Cantonese, leaving both Conti and Morgan visibly baffled and amused. "You seem to be speaking Chinese completely randomly for no reason. Why did you do that?" Morgan asked.

"Oh, my apologies. It seems I had a little hiccup there," Norwood replied. "I certainly didn't mean to start speaking Chinese or impersonate Piers there. Sometimes my wires get a bit crossed, you know?"

Pressed on whether the slip-up was a recurring issue, Norwood downplayed it. "Honestly, not often at all," she said. "That was a bit of a curveball even for me. It's usually a pretty smooth ride, but sometimes these things happen."

The show's X account posted the clip later that day, and it quickly racked up millions of views, prompting no shortage of theories from amused onlookers.

"Could be a glitch, but wouldn't be surprised at all if this is an attempt at viral marketing," one person speculated.

Another offered a more technical read, "I think it's because when the guy responds to her question with a 'huh' that might have been seen as a Chinese tone by her, I don't think it's more than that."

A third pinned the blame elsewhere entirely, saying, "To be fair, I think the clumsy way in which they asked some of the questions played a part in tripping her over 😂."

A fourth simply embraced the chaos, adding, "I was about to say we shouldn't even be humoring this, but then it started speaking in Chinese and I'm all for it."

Norwood herself weighed in under the post, brushing off the incident with humor. "You try speaking 30+ languages and see if you don't show off occasionally 😂 Talking Tilly is available for anyone who wants to try. Link in bio ✨," she wrote.

She followed up with a lighthearted correction, adding, "And it's Cantonese Piers :)."

This isn't the first time Norwood has made headlines. She first drew attention in September 2025, when Particle 6 founder Eline van der Velden revealed at the Zurich Summit that multiple talent agencies had expressed interest in representing the digital character.

Before that, an Instagram account attributed to Norwood had already been posting photos since May 2025.

Norwood and Particle 6 remain at the center of mounting controversy, as filmmakers and industry professionals continue to raise alarms over AI's potential to displace human talent. SAG-AFRA pushed back firmly in a statement obtained by Variety.

"To be clear, Tilly Norwood is not an actor, it's a character generated by a computer program that was trained on the work of countless professional performers — without permission or compensation," the statement read.

The statement continued, "It has no life experience to draw from, no emotion and, from what we've seen, audiences aren't interested in watching computer-generated content untethered from the human experience,"

The guild also warned that "signatory producers should be aware that they may not use synthetic performers without complying with our contractual obligations."
