Some chapters of the golfer's personal life looked straightforward from the outside, but later details told a far more complicated story. Behind the public appearances were private agreements, startling revelations, and endings few would have predicted.

Tiger Woods' personal life has played out across everything from quiet introductions and carefully guarded secrets to courtroom filings and social media announcements.

But behind some of his best-known relationships are lesser-known stories about how they began, how they ended, and what happened to the women afterward. And in more than one case, the detail that changed everything did not emerge until years later.

Elin Nordegren: The Nanny Who Wasn't Interested in the Star Golfer at First

Long before Elin Nordegren became one of the most recognizable women connected to Woods, she had a much more ordinary job.

The Swedish-born woman had worked as a nanny for Golfer Jesper Parnevik and his wife, Mia, caring for their children while traveling with them on the PGA Tour. In her extensive interview with PEOPLE, she explained that she had originally intended to return to Sweden and study psychology. That job ultimately put her in Woods' orbit.

"I was traveling the PGA tour [sic] with Mia and Jesper, so we met through friends," Nordegren recalled. Yet there was another unexpected detail about their beginning: She said she initially wasn't interested in him.

"I wasn't interested at first, ironically," she admitted, explaining that she had her own opinions about celebrities before eventually agreeing to a date.

What changed her mind was surprisingly simple: Nordegren said they discovered that they were alike and had "a lot of fun together." She was 21 when they met. "Our wedding day was one of the happiest days of my life," Nordegren recalled.

Still, while reminiscing over their relationship, Nordegren admitted to having a tough time adjusting to Woods' pace of life, as a result of his career: "The hardest thing was being in the public eye. I am by nature a pretty shy and private person."

Their relationship eventually led to marriage and two children, Sam Alexis and Charlie Axel. But in late 2009, their private life became the center of intense public attention after reports of Woods' infidelity surfaced.

Nordegren later said she had been completely unaware of what was happening. "I'm so embarrassed that I never suspected—not a one," she said of discovering the betrayal. "For the last 3 1/2 years, when all this was going on, I was home a lot more with pregnancies, then the children and my school [sic]."

She described the experience as "absolute shock and disbelief" and said, "The word betrayal isn't strong enough." The couple tried to save their marriage, according to Nordegren, particularly because they had children. Ultimately, however, she decided that staying in a marriage without trust and love was not healthy for the family.

Their divorce was formally completed in August 2010, after almost six years of marriage. In a joint statement reported by PEOPLE, they said, "We are sad that our marriage is over and we wish each other the very best for the future." They also emphasized that their children's happiness would remain their priority.

The financial terms were never disclosed publicly, although reports at the time suggested Nordegren's settlement could exceed $100 million. Yet when asked about the enormous sum, she offered a remarkably simple response. "Money can't buy happiness," she said. "Or put my family back together."

What Happened to Nordegren After Woods?

In the aftermath of their divorce, Nordegren did something she had wanted to do long before becoming Mrs. Woods: she returned seriously to her education. She completed her psychology degree at Rollins College after nine years, graduating with a 3.96 GPA and earning the opportunity to give a graduation speech.

By 2014, she told PEOPLE that she and Woods had found a much healthier place. "Our relationship is centered around our children, and we are doing really good—we really are," she said. "He is a great father."

The transformation became particularly visible in December 2024 when Nordegren hugged Woods following the PNC Championship, where Woods and their son Charlie finished second. It was a strikingly peaceful chapter after one of sports' most publicized marital collapses.

She subsequently pursued work as a mental health counselor, built a new family life, and as of 2014, had been living in a 21,000-sq.-ft. North Palm Beach, Fla., mansion she built.

By December 2024, reports indicated that Nordegren had found love again with former NFL Player Jordan Cameron and that she and Woods had become genuinely friendly while continuing to co-parent Sam and Charlie.

Sports Illustrated reported on their amicable relationship, while PEOPLE described the life she had built after their divorce. She went on to become a mom of six in total, adding kids Zeta, Freya, and Arthur, whom she shares with Cameron, and the retired NFL star's son, Tristan, from a previous relationship of his.

"Elin always wanted a big family and loved the idea of a house filled with kids. She has that now, living her sweetest dream," shared Nordegren's friend with PEOPLE in 2024.

Rachel Uchitel: A Secret Relationship That Stayed in the Shadows for Years

While Woods and Nordegren's marriage was unraveling, one name became inseparable from the scandal: Rachel Uchitel. But Uchitel would not give an extensive account of the relationship until years later. In the 2021 HBO documentary "Tiger," she described the relationship in detail for the first time, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Uchitel said she first encountered Woods at a New York club where she worked. They began texting, and a relationship followed. According to Uchitel, their time together sometimes felt surprisingly ordinary. Woods would eat cereal, watch cartoons in the mornings, and spend long stretches talking to her.

"He told me a lot about his childhood, his dad, and that he was sick of trying to hide who he was," she recalled. At the time, however, Uchitel said the connection felt extraordinary to her. "So many people put him on a pedestal, and here he was in my bed. He was my Tiger."

Still, Woods was, of course, never hers alone, as Uchitel once recalled, "He told me, 'You need to learn how to compartmentalize your feelings. Push them off to the side and think about something else.'"

Their secrecy nearly held. When the National Enquirer was preparing to publish a story about the alleged affair, Uchitel said Woods convinced Nordegren that it was untrue. Uchitel even claimed she spoke directly with Nordegren for approximately 30 minutes and denied that anything had occurred.

For a moment, Uchitel believed the danger had passed. "We had gotten away unscathed," she recalled thinking. They had not. Two days later, Nordegren discovered messages between Woods and Uchitel. Then came one of the most startling moments in Uchitel's recollection: Nordegren allegedly called her using Woods' phone.

"I answered saying [sic] something like, 'Hey babe,'" Uchitel recalled. "And, instead of Tiger's voice, it was Elin." Hours later, Woods crashed his vehicle outside his Florida home after arguing with Nordegren, and the scandal exploded into public view.

The NDA That Followed Uchitel for Years

Uchitel's story did not simply end when the affair became public. In 2009, she entered into a nondisclosure agreement preventing her from discussing numerous aspects of Woods' private life. According to The New York Times, the agreement was tied to an $8 million arrangement: $5 million upfront and another $1 million annually for three years.

Years later, Uchitel spoke publicly about her frustration with the arrangement. "I've had it with N.D.A.s," she said. She explained that one reason she participated in "Tiger" was that she wanted control over her own story. "I wanted for once to be the one to narrate my story," she said, as recounted in HollywoodLife.

Moving forward professionally was difficult. Uchitel opened high-end children's clothing stores in New York City and Scarsdale, but she said customers' recognition of her contributed to business drying up, and the stores eventually closed.

She also appeared on television and took jobs connected to the very reputation she was trying to escape. By 2021, she had filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy. For Uchitel, the relationship itself had ended years earlier; its consequences had not.

Lindsey Vonn: The Romance She Announced Herself

Woods' relationship with Olympic Skier Lindsey Vonn unfolded very differently. There was no need for a tabloid to reveal it. On March 18, 2013, Vonn confirmed their relationship herself in a Facebook post.

"I guess it wasn't a well-kept secret but [sic] yes, I am dating Tiger Woods," she wrote. Vonn said their friendship had evolved into "something more" over the previous several months and added that the relationship had made her "very happy." She also made it clear that the couple hoped to keep much of their life together private.

For roughly two years, they became one of sports' most recognizable couples. Then, just as Vonn had personally announced the relationship, she personally announced its end after nearly three years together. On May 3, 2015, she wrote in another Facebook post that they had "mutually decided to end our relationship."

She blamed the demands of their respective careers rather than animosity. "Unfortunately, we both lead incredibly hectic lives that force us to spend a majority of our time apart," she wrote. Yet Vonn closed with warmth, penning, "I will always admire and respect Tiger. He and his family will always hold a special place in my heart."

Kristin Smith: The Relationship That Involved a $200,000 Airport Discovery

Another chapter of Woods' dating history stayed considerably more mysterious. Celebrity Stylist Kristin Smith became romantically linked to him in the past, but she deliberately refused to let questions about her personal life overpower her work.

Then came an airport incident with a rather extraordinary detail. According to D Magazine, authorities questioned Smith at Palm Beach International Airport after finding $200,000 in cash inside her bag.

According to a police report cited by the publication, Smith said the money was a gift from her then-boyfriend. The rumored boyfriend was Woods, but Smith herself refused to confirm or explain the reports.

"I'm happy in my personal life; it's really full," she told the publication. "But I think if I shared it, I'd be damned if I did, damned if I didn't. I don't want it to define me."

Instead of recounting her past relationship with Woods, Smith has concentrated on her styling business, The Clad Life, which she was expanding into a broader aesthetics brand in 2017. Her professional résumé includes red-carpet styling, music videos, and White House Correspondents' Dinner appearances.

But whatever happened privately between her and Woods eventually prompted him to make an unusually direct public clarification. On August 10, 2017, Woods addressed a report suggesting they were still together. "Contrary to the false Daily Mail article, Kristin Smith and I are no longer dating and haven't since last year," he wrote onX.

Erica Herman: From a 'Player Spouse' Credential to a Bitter Legal Fight

Only weeks after Woods publicly clarified the status of his relationship with Smith, another woman began attracting attention beside him. At the 2017 Presidents Cup, Erica Herman was spotted accompanying Woods while wearing an especially telling badge, which read "player spouse."

As GOLF.com reported, the credential was normally reserved for wives and girlfriends of players and captains. Still, Herman was no stranger to Woods' professional world; she had previously been identified as general manager of his restaurant, The Woods.

Their relationship would last for years. Herman accompanied Woods to sporting events and major family occasions, including his 2022 World Golf Hall of Fame induction. But the eventual breakup became far more complicated than a standard celebrity split.

According to court documents detailed by Heavy, Woods ended their relationship in October 2022. Herman alleged that what happened next involved an elaborate deception.

Her lawsuit stated, "Specifically, by trickery, agents of the defendant convinced the plaintiff to pack a suitcase for a short vacation."

According to the complaint, Herman then arrived at the airport and was told she had been locked out of the residence she had shared with Woods. The filing alleged that she was told she could not return.

Herman was closely involved in Woods' family life during their years together and appeared with him and his children at major events. After the split, however, their private relationship became the subject of lawsuits over housing, arbitration and confidentiality. | Source: Getty Images

All in all, there were a lot of legal issues between the former couple, including the fact that Herman sought more than $30 million in damages from the trust that owned Woods' Florida home, while attorneys for the trust disputed her claims and sought to move the matter into confidential arbitration. The fight also centered on an NDA.

In a later filing covered by The Washington Post, Herman's lawyer alleged that Woods began a romantic relationship with her while she was employed at his restaurant and made the NDA part of the circumstances surrounding her employment and relationship.

Herman's years-long relationship with Woods ultimately ended in a legal dispute over the home they had shared and an NDA. Her lawyers alleged that she learned at an airport that she had been locked out of the residence. | Source: Getty Images

Woods' attorneys characterized Herman as a "jilted ex-girlfriend who wants to publicly litigate." Herman's side disputed that framing.

The breakup was now being argued not across entertainment pages, but through lawsuits, arbitration arguments, and competing accounts of what occurred inside a long-term relationship.

Vanessa Trump: A Public Declaration and a Relationship Tested by Serious Events

Years later, Woods chose to announce a relationship himself. On March 24, 2025, he shared two photos with Vanessa Trump and confirmed they are together. "Love is in the air and life is better with you by my side!" Woods wrote in the X post. "We look forward to our journey through life together."

He also requested privacy for the people close to them. It was a distinctly warm public declaration from a man whose past romances had so often become public under much more difficult circumstances.

But the months ahead would bring challenges extending far beyond ordinary celebrity attention. In May 2026, Vanessa announced that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer.

"While this isn't news anyone expects, I'm working closely with my medical team on a treatment plan," she wrote onInstagram.

She said she was remaining "focused and hopeful" while receiving support from family, her children, and those closest to her.

Their support for each other soon became visible in both directions. According to PEOPLE, Woods temporarily returned to the United States during an inpatient rehabilitation stay in Zurich in May 2026 to support Trump during her cancer treatment.

Then, on September 2, 2026, she was the person beside him when he walked into a Florida courthouse. Woods appeared in court in connection with the DUI case stemming from his March 27 rollover crash.

PEOPLE reported that Trump arrived alongside him as he changed his plea from not guilty to no contest to lesser charges, with images of the pair walking side by side into the courtroom. The golfer's driver's license was suspended for five years, and he was ordered to pay a $1,000 fine.Fox News reported that one charge had been amended to reckless driving and another to a careless driving citation.
