The former reality star is reportedly panicking after learning about her estranged son's upcoming tell-all memoir detailing alleged abuse. The book is set for an October release.

Kate Gosselin is said to be reeling after news of her estranged son Collin Gosselin's tell-all memoir, "In the Shadow of Eight: Surviving the Reality of My Childhood," came to light.

The book promises to expose the emotional and physical abuse Collin says he suffered at his mother's hands. According to a source connected to the family, the mother of eight was blindsided by the announcement of the book's impending October release.

"Kate had no idea this book was in the works," the insider said. "Collin hasn't spoken to his mother since she abandoned him in an institution as a young child. She didn't expect any of this to ever come out. Now she's spiraling because she knows it's about to hit the fan."

Kate has allegedly told those around her that any accusations against her are based on "zero facts," but Collin is claiming that he has "the evidence to back everything up" in the memoir.

"Kate can't stop this book from coming out but I have no doubt she wishes she could," the insider added. Collin's siblings are also expected to be caught off guard by the book.

They were quite young when their brother was institutionalized and, according to the source, "don't really know the truth of what happened to him" beyond what their mother has told them over the years.

While the full scope of the book's contents remains unclear, Collin has promised to pull back the curtain on what it was really like growing up on reality TV as part of one of America's most notorious families — far from the cameras.

He previously opened up in a 2023 documentary with Vice TV and a follow-up interview with The Sun in 2024, where he accused his mother of deliberately isolating him from his siblings, with whom he is also estranged.

He described being at the mercy of Kate's volatile moods and detailed disturbing punishments, including being locked in a specially built basement cell where he was zip-tied and surveilled by cameras.

Kate also had him placed in a mental health facility at age 11, following diagnoses of autism, bipolar disorder, and ADHD. As an adult, Collin was re-evaluated by a clinical psychologist, who found no current psychiatric or behavioral issues.

In response to his previous interviews, Kate called him a "very troubled young man" with a "distorted perception of reality." Now, Collin — who maintains a relationship with his sister Hannah and father Jon — is ready to tell his story on his own terms.

"My life was always broadcast to millions, but what was actually happening in my life was never shown — in fact, much of it was deliberately kept hidden," he said in a statement. "For years, other people told my story through headlines, television episodes and public speculation."

"Now, finally, I'm sharing what was really happening behind the scenes," he continued. "This book is about truth, survival, resilience and finding my voice after years of being silenced. If my story helps even one person feel less alone or gives them the courage to tell their own, then every difficult page was worth writing."
