Alan Ritchson and Wife Catherine Announce Split After 20 Years of Marriage

The "Reacher" star's marriage is drawing to a close after a story that started in a high school dance class. Court records suggest the announcement follows a brief attempt at reconciliation earlier this year.

Alan Ritchson and Catherine Ritchson are parting ways. The couple confirmed the end of their 20-year marriage in a joint statement posted to social media on Saturday, September 12.

"After twenty years together, Cat and I have decided to end our marriage and continue alongside one another in a different way," the post began. The pair went on to reflect on the life they built together, noting their shared history and the family at the center of it.

"We grew up together. We built a life and a family together. And we are raising three incredible boys who will always be the center of our world," their statement continued, referring to their three sons, Calem, Edan and Amory.

They were careful to note that the split doesn't erase what they shared. "Nothing can diminish what these years have meant to us — or the love and respect we will always share," the estranged couple said.

Both emphasized that co-parenting their children, along with their own personal growth, remains the priority going forward.

"The best gift we can give one another — and our boys — right now is friendship, grace and commitment to becoming the strongest co-parents we can be," the statement continued. "We also want to give each other room to grow into the people we are becoming."

For now, Alan, 43, and Catherine are hoping to navigate this new chapter away from public scrutiny.

"Change is hard enough without the world weighing in," they wrote. "We hope, especially for the sake our boys, that you will allow our family to move through this chapter with privacy and compassion. Thank you for supporting us as we continue making the health and happiness our family our priority."

While the split is only now becoming public, it may have been in motion for some time. TMZ obtained court documents showing that Alan actually filed for divorce back in December 2025. According to the outlet, the two reconciled in March, though the relationship ultimately didn't hold.

The "War Machine" star's history with Catherine dates back decades.

The two met at 17 and 16 during a high school dance class, and though their teenage romance was short-lived, they found their way back to each other years later while Catherine was in college. They married in May 2006.

Despite keeping much of their relationship private, the couple has offered fans occasional glimpses into their life together.

"I'm the luckiest man alive. To be able to build the treasure that is our marriage and family is and always will be the greatest privilege and success of my life," he wrote at the time. "@catritchson you are wisdom personified. Strength incarnate."

Catherine has also used her own Instagram page over the years to share glimpses of their life as a family.
