Maddox Jolie-Pitt has legally filed to drop Brad Pitt from his last name, becoming the latest of the former couple's six children to make the change. Neither parent has publicly addressed the move.
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's son, Maddox, has legally filed to have Pitt removed from his last name. The eldest child of the former couple, born Maddox Chivan Jolie-Pitt, recently made the request, joining several of his siblings who have already distanced themselves from the Pitt name.

Neither of his parents have addressed the legal move, which marks a new and definitive chapter for the young actor. And it's not the first time he has made a change to his moniker.
Earlier this year, he removed Pitt from his last name in the credits for his mother's most recent film, "Couture," for which he served as assistant director. His name had also been changed in the production notes, which were provided to journalists at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2025.

Maddox is the latest of Angelina and Brad's six children to have his name changed either officially or legally since the couple's separation.
Pax, 22, and Knox, 17, have not publicly made any changes to their monikers, while Zahara, 21, Shiloh, 20, and Vivienne, 17, have each taken steps — in varying degrees — to drop the Pitt name.
In 2023, Zahara made headlines when she introduced herself as Zahara Marley Jolie after joining the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority at Spelman College. When she graduated earlier this month, that change was maintained as she accepted her diploma.

Vivienne had her name credited as Vivienne Jolie in 2024 in the Playbill for "The Outsiders" musical, in which she worked alongside her mom. Shiloh — who was born Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt — took it a step further and became the first to make a permanent change.
On her 18th birthday in May 2024, Shiloh filed to legally drop Pitt from her last name and go by Shiloh Jolie. Her request was granted the following August.

Although the changes come after Angelina and Brad's turbulent divorce and ongoing legal battles, name changes are not something new to the Jolie-Pitt clan.
Angelina — born Angelina Jolie Voight — dropped her father Jon Voight's last name early on in her career, while Brad — whose full name is William Bradley Pitt — chose to drop his first name for a shot at Hollywood.

Despite their kids making names for themselves in their personal and professional lives, with some even working in entertainment, Angelina has previously shared that her children don't see themselves in front of the camera like their parents.
While they aren't clamoring to follow in her movie star footsteps, Angelina also shared at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival this year that it was important for her as a mother to give them room to figure out what they want to do with their lives.
"And I think for my children … I hope I'm giving them space to figure out who they actually are and something that they want to live for that's authentic to them so it holds in their life," she said.
