Celine Dion is mourning the loss of Peabo Bryson, the legendary soul balladeer who helped shape one of the most beloved Disney songs of all time. The two shared an unforgettable musical bond — and Dion wants the world to remember it.

Bryson passed away on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, days after suffering a stroke. He was 75. The following day, Dion took to X to share a heartfelt tribute in his honor.

"I'm heartbroken to hear that we lost Peabo Bryson today," she wrote. "His incredible voice and his kind spirit embodied the beauty of song and performance."

She continued, "He was so wonderful and generous to me all those years ago, when we recorded 'Beauty and the Beast.' He made me so comfortable, as I was just learning to sing in English."

"He will remain for me always as a real symbol of the joy that music has brought to my life. His voice and his talent will be missed," Dion added. "My heart is with your family, and may you rest in peace, Peabo. Love, Celine xx."

Alongside her message, Dion shared a photo of herself and Bryson taken at the 20th Annual American Music Awards in 1993 — two years after the pair had taken the world by storm with their rendition of "Beauty and the Beast," recorded for the Disney film of the same name.

Dion had originally been chosen to perform the song solo, but executives felt she was still too new to the industry and wanted a more established name alongside her. That's where Bryson came in.

Years later, he would look back on the experience with warmth, recalling in a 2017 CBC interview just how special their time in the studio had been.

"When you're a great singer like [Dion], oftentimes you find yourself in situations where you have to dial back," he told the outlet. "I learned that from doing duets. The key to it is to play to your duet partner's strength and weaknesses equally."

"So essentially that renders into a situation where there are no weaknesses because you're playing to them both equally," he added. Bryson noted that Dion had been tentative at first, but that the two gradually warmed up to each other.

"I looked across at her, and she looked back at me and what went on from the point of becoming relaxed was extremely intimate," he recalled. "You can't buy that. You can record it, though."

That chemistry translated beautifully. Their duet climbed to No. 9 on the Hot 100 and earned them both a Grammy. "I never ever got tired of listening to it," Bryson told the CBC.

Both artists went on to have remarkable careers. Bryson even returned to the Disney fold for what became another animated classic — "A Whole New World," from "Aladdin," which he recorded with Regina Belle.

That track hit No. 1 on the Hot 100, making history as the only song from an animated film to achieve that feat — a record that stood until "We Don't Talk About Bruno" from "Encanto" in 2022. The collaboration earned Bryson and Belle a Grammy as well.

Bryson's family confirmed his passing in a moving statement. "We are tremendously moved by the outpouring of love, prayers and support from fans, friends, and colleagues around the world," it read.

"While our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing how deeply Peabo was loved and how many lives were touched by his voice and his generous spirit. His legacy and music will live on for generations to come."
