Lenny Kravitz has carried a deep affection for Paris since he first arrived in 1989, a young musician promoting his debut album, "Let Love Rule."

Years later, that early connection inspired him to search for a small apartment where he could write and unwind between projects. As he recalled, he imagined "a little apartment, maybe on the Seine — one bedroom, two bedrooms, maximum — where I could write and hang out." But the property he ultimately purchased was far from little.

A Mansion Hidden in the 16th Arrondissement

During his search in the early 2000s, a real estate agent insisted on showing him a place that was nothing like what Kravitz had asked for.

The home belonged to Countess Anne d'Ornano, a former mayor of Deauville. Set on a quiet cul-de-sac in the refined 16th arrondissement, the 1920s estate sat among embassies and grand residences. With her children grown and her heart increasingly drawn to her country estate in Normandy, the countess had decided to sell the property.

Kravitz remembered his surprise the moment he visited the property the first time. He narrated, "I pull up, she points at the building, I said, 'Okay, what floor?' thinking it's an apartment building. And she says, 'It's the whole thing.' I said, 'No, no, no, no, absolutely not.' 'Please, just go inside and look at it.' I walked in and said, 'This is my house.' Spiritually, I knew."

Transforming an Aristocratic Home

Converting the manor into a space that suited the lifestyle of a global rock icon was a significant undertaking. Kravitz planned to spend half the year in Paris recording music, resting between tours, and enjoying time with his daughter, Zoe.

The rest of his year is divided between his Bahamas compound and a ranch he owns in Brazil. The Paris home needed to function as both a sanctuary and a creative hub.

In 2003, Kravitz founded Kravitz Design, a studio specializing in interiors and creative branding. His firm, now recognized on the AD100 list, has collaborated with major brands including Leica, Dom Perignon, CB2, and Sushi Shop. His Paris residence became a showcase of the studio's philosophy: refined, expressive, and deeply personal.

A Home Filled With Memories and Meaning

Throughout the home, pieces that honor family, mentors, and loved ones play a significant role. A portrait of his godmother Diahann Carroll hangs in the library.

The Roxie Room, named for his mother and featuring the title of her namesake space, displays elegant black-and-white publicity photos from her acting career.

In the basement gallery, near his music studio, he displays Miles Davis's leather jacket, given to him by another godmother, Cicely Tyson, shortly after the jazz legend's passing.

Yet the most meaningful work in the house is a striking portrait of his grandfather, Albert Roker, photographed by Ruven Afanador. It hangs above a sculptural Paul Evans sideboard in the dining room and grounds the space with family legacy.

The Speakeasy Hidden in the Basement

Originally a two-story boiler room, he redesigned it into a moody, speakeasy-style hideaway. Featuring vintage French bistro tables from the Saint-Ouen flea market, a 1940s German disco ball found in Los Angeles, and even a chrome car grill mounted into the brick wall, the space embodies the playful, eclectic side of his creativity. As he simply puts it, it also has "a great sound system."

What began as a search for a small writing retreat became a sprawling artistic refuge that reflects every facet of Kravitz's life. His Paris home is not just a residence but a testament to his instinct, his heritage, and the city that continues to inspire him.
