Fillers and other cosmetic treatments were once part of the beauty routines of several famous faces. Over time, however, some began questioning whether the results still reflected how they wanted to look.

For some, that meant reversing a treatment. Others stopped getting injections, while one star reportedly began seeking a softer, less sculpted appearance.

Their before-and-after photos capture different points in those journeys, while their own words reveal what led to their decisions.

Madonna

Madonna's appearance at the 2023 Grammy Awards became the subject of intense discussion. By 2025, a source told Page Six that the singer was taking a different approach to her appearance.

According to the insider, Madonna's boyfriend, Akeem Morris, had been encouraging her to embrace her age.

"She's starting to listen to Akeem, who tells her she's beautiful. She doesn't normally listen to anyone but she does him," the source said. "She now wants to own being 67 rather than trying to look 27."

The source said Madonna had been turning to LED lights, oxygen facials, and lymphatic drainage for a refresh.

"Everyone is obsessed with what she's done to her face, and so she's decided to try and look a bit more natural after that whole Grammys appearance a few years ago," the insider told Page Six.

"Her face is so iconic that it needs to look like her," the insider said. "She wants it to look less sculpted and she wants her face to move."

Courteney Cox

Courteney Cox has been candid about finding it difficult to accept getting older while working in Hollywood.

"I would say it's a common thing you go through as you age, especially in Hollywood," she told People in 2019. "You have to accept getting older, and that's something that I had a hard time doing."

That struggle eventually influenced what she chose to do to her face.

Cox said she did not realize how far things had gone until she stepped back. "Oh s--. I don't look like myself," she recalled thinking.

"Around the time I was filming 'The House Bunny,' I started getting lip injections in my upper lip. I did it for a little bit and I noticed a small difference, but no one else ever said anything. I kept wondering if anybody else even noticed," Faris wrote.

Eventually, people close to her said something. Faris then began to "wean" herself off the injections. Looking back, she described getting them as a mistake and "definitely not the right choice" for her.

Lisa Rinna's history with cosmetic treatments goes back decades. Long before she reversed a more recent injectable treatment, she had dealt with complications from silicone injected into her upper lip.

People reported in October 2010 that Rinna had silicone injected into her lip when she was 25. Over the years, scar tissue formed around it, leaving her upper lip swollen and bumpy.

Rinna's husband, Harry Hamlin, told People that the gradual changes to her lip had barely registered with him. "Whatever change took place was so gradual, it never registered for me," Hamlin said.

Years later, Rinna encountered a separate problem. She said an esthetician recommended SKINVIVE with the promise that it would give her a glow without adding volume.

Rinna later said the treatment around her cheeks, combined with Botox she had received in her jaw for TMJ, produced a result she disliked.

After a cosmetic influencer discussed Rinna's appearance in a now-deleted TikTok video, Rinna responded in the comments.

"Skinvive is not for everyone, and it was not good for me," she wrote, according to the same publication. "Luckily we could dissolve it today. Whew."

Rinna later expanded on the episode in her memoir, according to a March 2026 Daily Mail report. She said she went to her dermatologist "immediately" and had the SKINVIVE reversed.

"Everyone was so mean about it," Rinna said of the reaction to her 2024 appearance. She also recalled knowing that she disliked the result. "Oh my god. It was really humiliating because I knew that it looked terrible," she said.

Melanie Griffith

Melanie Griffith said she did not initially realize that her cosmetic work had gone further than she wanted. Other people's reactions eventually changed that.

"I didn't [realize it had gone too far] until people started saying, 'Oh my god, what has she done?!'" Griffith told Net-a-Porter, according to USA Today in 2017. The comments hurt enough that she decided to see another doctor.

"Bandaged again after having dermabrasion, the final step to fix the now removed basil cell skin cancer," Griffith wrote in the post.

She urged people who spend time in the sun to "be CAREFUL," use sunscreen, and get checked by a dermatologist. "If you don't have one, get one, or go to your nearest clinic and ask to be tested for it," she added.

Ariana Grande quietly stopped getting lip filler and Botox years before explaining why. During a September 2023 installment of Vogue's "Beauty Secrets," she became candid about how extensively she had once used both.
