K-Pop to Hollywood: How BTS, Blackpink, and SEVENTEEN Are Reshaping Global Entertainment
October 29, 2025

Few celebrities have managed to grow up under constant public scrutiny without becoming trapped by it, but Selena Gomez turned early fame into a long game, evolving from a child performer into a cultural force who continues to redefine success on her own terms.
Selena Gomez began her career in 2002 on the children's television series "Barney & Friends." She was just 10 years old when she appeared as Gianna, gaining her first professional acting experience on a show watched by millions of young viewers.
The role may have been small, but it marked the beginning of what would become a two-decade career in entertainment.

Gomez reached mainstream fame in 2007 when she joined Disney Channel's "Wizards of Waverly Place." At 15, she took on the lead role of Alex Russo, a sarcastic and mischievous teen wizard that quickly became one of Disney's most memorable characters.
The series ran until 2012 and solidified her status as a household name. During this period, she also made guest appearances on popular shows such as "The Suite Life of Zack & Cody" and "Hannah Montana."

While working on Disney Channel, Gomez began branching into film. She appeared in projects like "The Princess Protection Programme," where she starred alongside close friend Demi Lovato, and "Another Cinderella Story."
These roles aligned with her youthful image while allowing her to build experience as a leading actress outside of television.

In 2009, Gomez expanded her reach by launching her music career with the band Selena Gomez & the Scene. The group released three albums in consecutive years: "Kiss & Tell," "A Year Without Rain," and "When the Sun Goes Down."
Hits such as "Naturally," "Who Says," and "Love You Like A Love Song" helped the band achieve commercial success before disbanding in 2012.

As she entered adulthood, Gomez began taking roles that distanced her from her Disney persona. She appeared in family-oriented films like "Ramona and Beezus" and "Monte Carlo," but the 2012 crime drama "Spring Breakers" marked a major turning point. The edgy film positioned her as a serious actress willing to take creative risks and step outside the tween demographic.
Following that shift, Gomez continued exploring diverse roles. She appeared in the drama "Rudderless," the indie film "The Fundamentals of Caring," the comedy "Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising," and the romantic comedy "A Rainy Day in New York." Each project reflected a growing confidence in choosing unconventional or character-driven roles.

After Selena Gomez & the Scene disbanded, Gomez launched her solo music career with the 2013 single "Come & Get It." Her debut solo album "Stars Dance" showcased a bolder sound and more mature themes.
That evolution continued with "Revival," released in 2015, which produced hits like "Same Old Love," "Hands To Myself," and "It Ain't Me," firmly establishing her as a global pop star.

In 2017, Gomez returned to television in a new capacity, serving as an executive producer on Netflix's "13 Reasons Why" alongside her mother. The role highlighted her growing influence behind the camera.
She later returned to acting on television in 2021 with Hulu's "Only Murders in the Building," her first scripted TV role since leaving Disney.

After a five-year break from releasing albums, Gomez returned in 2020 with "Rare," featuring hits like "Lose You to Love Me." That same year, she launched Rare Beauty, a makeup brand praised for its inclusive message.
In December 2022, she released a deeply personal documentary detailing her struggles with fame, physical health, and mental well-being.

Gomez entered a new personal era with producer Benny Blanco. After more than a year of dating, the couple announced their engagement and later released the collaborative song "I Said I Love You First" in March 2025, months before their wedding on September 27, 2025.
