How Rachel McAdams Almost Lost the Role That Became a Romance Classic
December 14, 2025

Not every Oscars date is a romantic one. Over the years, some of Hollywood’s biggest stars have chosen to walk the red carpet with the woman who supported them long before the spotlight.
The Oscars are usually filled with glamorous couples and carefully coordinated plus-ones. But for some of Hollywood’s biggest leading men, the most meaningful date on the red carpet wasn’t a partner or a co-star — it was their mom.
Bradley Cooper brought his mom to the Oscars not just once, but twice. In 2022, he arrived with his mother, Gloria Campano, as his date, and then again in 2024, celebrating his seventh nomination for the prestigious awards show.

There was speculation on whether he would show up with his romantic partner, Gigi Hadid, but he shut that down the moment he appeared on the red carpet alongside his mother.

Ryan Gosling didn’t just bring his mom, Donna Gosling, to the 2024 Oscars — he made it a family affair by bringing his sister Mandi along. Meanwhile, his longtime partner, Eva Mendes, showed her support from home.

It wasn’t Gosling’s first time choosing family as his Oscars date. He also brought his mom and sister to the ceremony back in 2007, making this a long-running tradition rather than a one-off gesture.

Like Gosling and Cooper, Timothée Chalamet has brought his mom to the Oscars more than once. In 2018, following his breakout performance in "Call Me By Your Name," for which he earned a nomination for Best Actor, he came with his mother, Nicole Flender, a moment that quickly won over viewers watching at home.

Years later, at the 2025 Oscars, he again attended with family, arriving hand-in-hand with his mom, along with his sister, Pauline. His girlfriend, Kylie Jenner, also joined him inside the ceremony, but he walked into the event with just his family.

Leonardo DiCaprio chose a memorable year to bring his mother, Irmelin Indenbirken, as his date to the Oscars. In 2016, his mother witnessed his first Oscar win for The "Revenant."
DiCaprio explained that he chose his mom because she had supported his acting dreams from the beginning, driving him to auditions and encouraging him as a child. She watched him accept the award from the front row, making it both an emotional and historic win for the A-list star.
It wasn't the first time DiCaprio brought his mother to the event. In 2014, he also attended the ceremony with her, where he was nominated for "The Wolf of Wall Street."

Matthew McConaughey brought the two most important women in his life to the Oscars in 2014 — his wife, Camila Alves, and his mother, Mary Kathlene McCabe. The actor proudly posed with both women on the red carpet.
It was a big night for McConaughey, who was nominated for Best Actor for "Dallas Buyers Club." Asked about the film, he revealed, “It was 20 years in the making,” making the presence of his closest supporters feel especially fitting.

These leading men prove that when it comes to the biggest night in Hollywood, there’s no better plus-one than the first woman in their lives — the one who helped make it all possible.
