SZA's Personal Struggles

She revealed, "I buried, like, three ex-boyfriends, my granny died, I buried someone two days ago… I'm devastated by the state of the world and the hatred." The R&B singer admitted that some days, she felt vengeful and militant, while on others, she felt defeated and overwhelmed with tears, unable to comprehend the events around her.

During those difficult times, the "Good Days" artist turned to her faith, saying, "Then you start getting biblical, like, 'Why is this happening to my people?' Then you go through, 'It's never going to change, so might as well just go with the flow.' And then you go through, 'No. I'm not asking anymore. I'm going to make it change.'"

She found comfort in educating herself about the world and issues she cared about. SZA spent late nights researching topics such as the environment, social injustice, and the treatment of animals in zoos and SeaWorld.

The musician admitted that, for a time, she lived in a bubble where she thought these issues didn't matter. However, as she got older, she began to grasp the realities of the world. She explained, "But I feel alive and clear on what I want. I don't have the energy to create a filter anymore."

SZA rose to fame after catching the attention of Top Dawg Entertainment with her independently released work. And as she navigated personal hardships, she also faced challenges with her health and self-image. At one point, she decided to enhance her appearance through a BBL, a choice she later came to regret.

SZA's BBL Procedure

During a November 2024 interview, SZA spoke about battling mysterious health issues, including allergies and autoimmune conditions. She recalled how, at one point, her hands were peeling, and her hair was falling out.

The "Snooze" singer described her symptoms, "My nail beds were separating from my fingers and coming off. It was so gross." While on tour, she found temporary relief through medications like dexamethasone, Plaquenil, and prednisone.

In 2019, she maintained a strict diet, avoiding red meat, dairy, wheat, and sugar. She primarily ate fish, vegetables, complex carbohydrates like squash, avocado, and sweet potatoes, and drank plenty of water.

However, her decision to get a BBL came after she started working out in early 2022. Although her muscle development progressed quickly, her butt took longer to grow, prompting her to opt for surgery.

After the procedure, SZA reflected on the experience, "I gained all this weight from being immobile while recovering and trying to preserve the fat. It was just so stupid." She eventually realized that the BBL hadn't been necessary, admitting, "I'm so mad I did that [expletive]."

The singer acknowledged that the surgery wasn't as necessary as other personal aspects she wished to work on, including her mental health. She further explained, "Not to say you can't do those things simultaneously, just, for me, I realise wherever you go, there you'll be. But I love my butt."

SZA continued, "Don't get me wrong. My booty look[s] nice. And I'm grateful that it looks pretty much… I don't know, sometimes natural, but I don't even care. It's something that I wanted. I'm enjoying it. I love shaking it."

Despite her regrets, she expressed a willingness to undergo other procedures in the future, stating that her body is only temporary.
