Swifties are dissecting Taylor Swift’s latest album release after a new track sparked rumors of shade — and fans online can’t agree who the target really is.
Taylor Swift has released her new album, "The Life of a Showgirl," and one track is already fueling speculation of a feud. The song, "Actually Romantic," has fans wondering if Swift is aiming Charli XCX.
Listeners pointed to possible connections, including Charli’s ties to "The 1975" through her husband, George Daniel, and her own track, "Everything Is Romantic." Swifties also noted the similarity to Charli's lyric "Sympathy is a knife" from her album "Brat."
In "Actually Romantic," Swift flips insults into sly retorts. She references being called "Boring Barbie" and adds lines such as, "Hadn’t thought of you in a long time / But you keep sending me funny valentines."
The lyric drew extra attention after a Spotify pop-up in New York featured a custom Valentine’s Day card tied to the album.
Fans quickly chimed in online. "I love that is a diss track," one wrote. Another joked, "I thought it was about Trump actually lol." A Charli XCX supporter added, "As Charli fan she shaded Taylor multiple times. I don't think they hate each other but Taylor right here."
