Dick Van Dyke Leads ‘Happy Birthday’ Sing-Along for Young Fan
October 07, 2025
The "Mary Poppins" actor quipped about possibly not reaching his upcoming birthday during a charity event in Malibu.
On October 5, 2025, Dick Van Dyke and his wife, Arlene Silver, attended the Vandy High Tea at the Vandy Manor in California to raise funds for several of the actor's charities. Guests at the event got to listen to his singing group, Dick Van Dyke and The Vantastix, as well as hear stories from Van Dyke and Silver.
The topic of the actor's age came up during the gala, as he is set to turn 100 years old on December 13. He told attendees that there were just two months left for that, but then he added some characteristic sarcasm.
"It'd be funny if I didn't make it," he said. Dick Van Dyke also commented that he had often bragged about living this long, but had he known about his longevity, he probably would've worked harder healthwise.
"And it is frustrating because I don't know what I did right. Other than her [Arlene], I didn't do anything right," he expressed. The couple has been married since 2012.
The event benefitted the Van Duke Endowment, which, among its many initiatives, supports programs like Visual and Performing Arts in the area's public schools. Some proceeds also went to the Dick Van Dyke Museum.
