Inside Bad Bunny’s Acting Career

Cillian Murphy is one of the most recognizable actors of his generation, yet he has never embraced the spotlight that usually follows Hollywood success. Instead, the Oscar winner keeps his personal life quiet and lets his performances speak for themselves.
Cillian Murphy has built a reputation for intense performances across film and television. From crime dramas to historical epics, he consistently disappears into his characters. Yet despite his growing fame, Murphy has never leaned into the traditional trappings of celebrity culture.
Instead, the Irish actor has spent years explaining that he prefers audiences to focus on the work rather than the person behind it.

Murphy addressed this perspective during an October 5, 2025 episode of "Sunday Sitdown with Willie Geist." In the interview on "TODAY," the Academy Award winner explained why he prefers to keep his personal identity separate from the roles he plays.
"I’ve always felt that if you wanna try and inhabit somebody convincingly that it seems sensible that there wouldn’t be too much — that people wouldn’t have an impression of you as an individual that would in some way inhibit your ability to do that," Murphy said.

For Murphy, acting is about transformation. The more distance he maintains between his public image and his characters, the easier it becomes for audiences to believe the performances.
He has often spoken about how much he values that process. The actor added that the "transformative nature" of acting is what draws him to the profession. Keeping a lower profile helps him remain flexible as a performer.

Murphy’s grounded outlook also shapes the way he approaches the work on set.
During a question-and-answer session at a promotional event for "Peaky Blinders," Murphy admitted that he tries not to take the profession too seriously. While some of his roles deal with dark or difficult subject matter, he believes maintaining a sense of humor is essential.
"I think I am very aware that my job is primarily to put on costumes and do some voices. I'm very cognizant of that, and I don't use it therapeutically or anything, the work, but um, it's a great release to play these characters and it's important, like i think the energy on set needs to be light," he explained.
Murphy even pointed out that the audience member asking the question was a doctor, noting that the person had a "real job."
For the actor, the contrast helps keep things in perspective. While his roles may explore serious themes, the environment behind the scenes often remains relaxed.
Murphy explained that cast and crew members frequently joke around while filming heavy scenes. The light atmosphere helps balance the emotional demands of the material. And once a project wraps, he says the solution is simple. The team takes a holiday and resets.
Murphy’s philosophy has not slowed his career. In fact, it has helped shape one of the most respected bodies of work in modern film. He first gained international attention with roles in Christopher Nolan films such as "Batman Begins" and "Inception." His portrayal of Thomas Shelby in the television series "Peaky Blinders" further cemented his reputation as a commanding screen presence.
Murphy’s career reached another milestone when he played J. Robert Oppenheimer in Christopher Nolan’s historical drama "Oppenheimer."

The three-hour film became a major awards contender, winning seven Oscars. Among them was the Academy Award for Best Picture, along with Murphy’s first Oscar for Best Actor in a Leading Role, and Robert Downey Jr.'s Best Actor in a Supporting Role.
The success of "Oppenheimer" also brought Murphy to a wider global audience. While he had long been admired by critics and film fans, the film turned him into a household name.

Murphy’s career has remained active following the success of "Oppenheimer."
He has appeared in projects including the zombie film "28 Days Later" and the drama "Small Things Like These," an adaptation of Irish author Claire Keegan’s novel of the same name.
His upcoming work includes the Netflix film "Steve," where Murphy plays the headteacher of a school for boys dealing with societal and behavioral challenges. He is also set to return to one of his most famous characters in the upcoming "Peaky Blinders" movie.

For many actors, celebrity visibility is part of the job. Red carpets, interviews, and public appearances often shape the public’s image of a performer. Murphy has taken a different path.
By avoiding the traditional celebrity spotlight, he has allowed audiences to focus on the characters he portrays rather than the personality behind them. The approach has not limited his career. If anything, it has strengthened his reputation as one of the most committed actors of his generation.
In an industry that often rewards constant visibility, Murphy’s quieter strategy stands out. And for many fans, that dedication to the craft is exactly why his performances feel so convincing.
