The "Criminal Minds" alum's decision not to marry his longtime partner stemmed from his upbringing and the examples of marriage he was exposed to. The pair announced their split in early 2025.

Despite having been in a years-long, committed relationship, marriage has never been in the cards for Shemar Moore. The "S.W.A.T." star opened up about his perspective on tying the knot, and how the idea never quite sat right with him.

"I didn't have a good role model of marriage in my life. Not my mother, not my father. Nobody close to me," he told People during a November 2024 interview. "I struggle with 'Who made that rule?'"

"I asked my mother one time. I'm like, 'If people get married, then what's this prenup thing? Oh, I love you. You're the most amazing person in the world but sign this. So you don't trust the person?'" he continued.

At the time, Moore was in a long-term relationship with actress Jesiree Dizon. The former couple welcomed their daughter, Frankie, in 2023. Although Moore saw Dizon as his "partner in crime," he never envisioned marriage in their future.

"To me, it's just like tomorrow's not guaranteed, but Jesiree, I'll give you everything I got today and tomorrow. She is my partner. She is the mother of Frankie. Frankie has a dope-ass mama, and I'm going to try to be a dope-ass daddy. And we going to do that until God calls my name," he declared.

Sadly, only two months after his remarks, Moore and Dizon went their separate ways. "They are loving friends and co-parents and always will be," a source told People of the breakup in late January.

According to TMZ, who broke the news first, the pair dated briefly in 2008 but split when Moore wasn't quite ready to settle down. They reconnected in 2020 after the actor lost his mother to multiple sclerosis and a heart condition, and rekindled their romance shortly after.

They became Instagram official in 2023 and remained together until earlier this year. Before they welcomed their daughter, Dizon was already a mom to her two sons, Charli and Kayden, from previous relationships.

While Moore respected that the boys had relationships with their respective fathers, he still felt a special connection with them. "I don't step on those toes, but I keep them safe. I mentor them as I can. I try my hardest to make them believe in themselves and watch them fly," he said.

Although he split from their mother, the pair has indeed remained on good terms. Back in August, they reunited at a basketball game between the Dallas Wings and the Los Angeles Sparks. Both shared courtside photos with their baby girl posing with players and the Sparks mascots.

In a joint post with Moore, Dizon captioned, "Frankie's first game was one for the books!!!! Thank you @la_sparks@dallaswings ….. we had a BLAST!!! 🥰😍 Hopefully one day, she too will get a tech called on her….. she's sure got the attitude for it! 🤣"
