Oher's marriage was very discreet, but people soon discovered he had a wife after an uber driver filed a lawsuit against him. In 2017, the case detailed that Oher had been under the influence of alcohol when he entered the driver's car.

Upon request, the Uber driver followed Oher's wife's car to a country club in Nashville, where Oher reportedly intended to enjoy the rest of his night.

Oher reportedly became belligerent when the driver lost track of his wife's location, which resulted in Oher's arrest, where officials charged him with misdemeanor assault.

The charges were dismissed, according to Tennessee's Davidson County District Attorney spokeswoman, Dorinda Carter, after the driver agreed to drop them. For many people, when Oher's wife was mentioned in the lawsuit, it was the first time they learned of his marriage.
