Dick Van Dyke Leads ‘Happy Birthday’ Sing-Along for Young Fan

The beloved "Mary Poppins" star carried out the sweet gesture during an event he and his wife hosted at their home — just months before his own 100th birthday milestone this December.

Dick Van Dyke and his wife, Arlene Silver, hosted the Vandy High Tea charity event on Sunday, October 5. The affair was held at Vandy Manor, Dick and Arlene's Malibu home, where fans gathered for an intimate celebration of the acclaimed actor's life and career.

During the gathering, Dyke reportedly led a "Happy Birthday" sing-along for six-year-old Tristan, who had traveled with his mother from Connecticut to see Dick in person. Tristan had also brought along his Bert and Mary Poppins dolls.

In addition to singing "Happy Birthday," Dick also performed "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang," "Supercalafragelisticexpialidocious," and the theme from"The Dick Van Dyke Show."

"He was so sharp, was in great health and said he's feeling good," one of the attendees told PEOPLE. "He was laughing almost the entire time and couldn't have enjoyed himself more."

Over and above the entertainment — including live performances by The Vantastix, Dan West, LoveyDove and more — guests were also treated to a "Vandy Tea" with catered sandwiches and desserts, as well as a variety of refreshments, including the fan-favorite "Fitzwilly Fizz."

According to a social media post promoting the Vandy High Tea, a portion of the proceeds from the ticket sales will benefit The Van Dyke Endowment of the Arts and the Dick Van Dyke Museum which is currently in development.
